Chasing a Muse

My muse is somewhat like a child - always wanting to play hide-and-seek, but not always returning when called home. St. Peter and the Innocent - John D. Harmon At times, it's quite easy to find where inspiration hides. At other times, my search might take me to the most unexpected places. However, I've found that my muse never runs too far from me - never hides in too dark a place. Inspiration always returns to me, even when I least expect it. What truly amazes me is that my muse can find a place to hide within me which I never knew existed. Not only does my muse inspire me to find my Artistic voice, it inspires me to find myself.

While studying Art in Florence, Italy in the early 1990's, I discovered that the vast wealth of Artwork created during the Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau periods still hold a divine and inspiring power - a power that seems to resonate within you years after viewing the works. During those months in Italy, I was inspired to attempt an emulation of the artisanship of those periods in my own work. The result is a series of works through which I have aspired to speak the language of the Great Masters. On this website, you will find pieces that are a result of that quest, as well as works that have been inspired by completely different events, sources and emotions - thus manifesting themselves in a variety of ways. As an Artist, I am continually striving to better myself while attaining a peace with what I have created. Inspiration, Observation and Execution - the three ingredients needed to make Art. The higher the quality of each of these, the higher the quality the Art that is born of them.
